Performance index (0–100)
A value stored in our database to describe chipset tier and generation. It is not a published benchmark result for each phone and has no fixed conversion to application speed. A score of 90 does not establish a measured percentage advantage over 70: cooling, software and the workload change the result.
Overall rating (out of 10)
A weighted average of five criteria: performance, camera, display, battery and value for money. Camera, display and battery scores are derived from announced specs: lens resolutions and counts, panel type, resolution and refresh rate, battery capacity and charging speed. The same formula runs for every phone, so the numbers are comparable with each other — but they describe published specifications, not measured photo quality, runtime or build. They are not a substitute for testing, which we do not do.
Value for money
The relationship between the performance index and the current market price — it updates automatically when a phone's price drops: a phone that was "average value" at launch can become "great value" a year later.
Prices: observed vs estimated
Observed: the lower end of local new-unit listings, with the observation date stated on the phone page — not a specific shop's price and not a guarantee of availability. Estimate: when we have no recent local listing for a model, we show a reference estimate derived from launch pricing and comparable phones, explicitly labelled as unverified (its card carries a ≈ mark). Price movement is computed from one monthly history record between two dated snapshots, and cards and articles read that same record. Both editions show the same prices in Jordanian dinars (JOD) with USD hints at the official peg, and ranking is computed in dinars on both.
Who runs this site, and how is the content reviewed?
Phones JO is an independent project owned and edited by Anas Ismeil in Jordan — not a company and not an editorial team. It is not affiliated with any shop, distributor or importer, it sells nothing, carries no sales links or affiliate commissions, and names no retailers. Its only revenue source is Google advertising, which has no influence on the rankings or the prices shown. Contact: the contact page (gtech0x@gmail.com).
- Specifications come from manufacturers' official announcements and spec pages.
- Prices come from periodic observation runs over local listings and Jordanian retailer price lists; the variant, condition and observation date are recorded internally. Anything we cannot verify is shown as an estimate, and we do not base a recommendation on it.
- Indices and rankings are computed with fixed formulas from specs and price — explained in full here. They are not lab tests and not user ratings.
- Written analyses on selected pages (who a phone suits, trade-offs, alternatives) are prepared from published specifications and our recorded prices with the help of AI tools; responsibility for publishing and for their content rests with the site operator. We do not test phones hands-on and we claim no camera or battery measurements.
What are the limits of this method?
The indices measure what is published, not what is experienced: a higher chipset index is not always faster in your apps, more megapixels do not necessarily mean better photos, and a bigger battery does not necessarily last longer. Coverage is uneven too — we have an observed price for only part of the catalog and the rest is estimated, which every page states.
