Overview
The Galaxy S8 is a budget phone from Samsung, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 45 (about $65), up to about JOD 55 for higher storage — also an estimate — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.
Its main highlights: its sharp, bright display, and its vivid OLED display. Its chipset is basic (30/100) — calls, WhatsApp and light browsing, as a first or backup phone.
Performance-index rank: #126 of 342 Samsung phones we list — and its performance-per-dinar is among the highest we list (an arithmetic ratio, not a verdict on value).
Why consider it?
The 2017 flagship, now offered at roughly ≈ 45–≈ 55. The clearest comparison sits on a single Samsung page: the quarterly security-update list names the Galaxy A06, a current budget phone offered at about ≈ 49, while the S8 appears at no update tier at all.
Who it suits
A second line, an emergency handset kept in a drawer, a travel phone you would not mind losing, or a music and media player.
Who should look elsewhere
Not something to depend on daily, not for payment or work-messaging apps, and not for anyone who will need spare parts or an official spec sheet.
Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence
The plainest thing about this phone is that Samsung answers the question itself, on one page. The security update-scope page holds two lists, monthly and quarterly. The quarterly list includes the Galaxy A06, a current budget handset, alongside the oldest covered members of the S family: the Galaxy S21 FE 5G and the S22 generation. The S8 is on neither list, and the policy printed at the top of that page — support extended by up to seven years — is dated January 2024, seven years after this handset went on sale.
The second layer is that the documentation has been withdrawn as well. The model's Middle East address now opens the current Galaxy S family page, which never mentions the S8. Further back still, the Exynos 8895 page on Samsung's semiconductor site returns an error, and the chip is missing from the published Exynos line-up, which starts at the 1000 and 2000 series. The company publishes neither the phone's sheet nor its processor's sheet; what remains on samsung.com is a support entry for model code SM-G950F with manuals, software and a repair request form.
What does that mean for a buyer in Amman? That every figure in the spec table here — screen, memory, battery, charging — has lost its official reference point, and that two handsets offered under the same name may not be the same device. The body is from a flagship generation and the panel still reads well for the money, but all of it sits on a software base that will not move again.
Alternatives worth comparing
- iPhone 7 — Cheaper, at about ≈ 42, and a notch better off in Apple's own filing: listed as vintage rather than obsolete, and named in the latest iOS 15 branch fixes. The trade is a 4.7-inch screen from 2016 and a much smaller battery. If continuing patches are the yardstick, it is the stronger option here. (42 JOD · estimate)
- Galaxy A06 — Dearer by ≈ 4, with a price we have observed rather than estimated, and weaker paper specs in our record: a Helio G85, a 6.7-inch screen and a 5000mAh battery. But it is named on Samsung's quarterly update list, and for anyone who needs a phone for daily use that one fact turns the comparison around. (49 JOD · estimate)

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above
If the job is a second line or a drawer handset, then at ≈ 45 the outlay is reasonable for that use and no other. If the phone is going to be carried every day, the comparison is settled inside the same brand: around ≈ 49 moves you to a device that is actually named on Samsung's quarterly list. The S8's real limit is not its age — it is that its name is no longer on that list.

What does that mean in plain words?
Battery: 3,000 mAh — a relatively small capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 15W — standard (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: AMOLED 2K, 5.8-inch — above-FHD resolution; OLED means true blacks and high contrast.
Camera: 12 MP (1 lens) plus a 8 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.
Pros & cons
Pros
- The model can be identified before you pay: SM-G950F has a working support page at Samsung with software, manuals and a repair-request route — the simplest way to confirm that what is on the counter is what the seller says it is
- The sum at risk is small: at ≈ 45–≈ 55 a bad outcome costs little, which is the basic condition for any phone that no longer receives patches
- The hardware comes from a flagship generation: our record lists a 5.8-inch 2K screen and 4GB of memory, a class above what the same money buys new — with the caveat that Samsung no longer publishes a page confirming those figures
Cons
- Entirely outside security updates, and the proof is on the same page that lists the Galaxy A06 under quarterly updates: a current phone at around ≈ 49 gets what the S8 does not
- Even the processor's documentation has gone: the Exynos 8895 page on Samsung's semiconductor site returns an error, and the chip is absent from the published Exynos line-up, which now begins at the 1000 and 2000 series — so no Samsung document describes what runs this phone
- There is no way to verify a used unit: no spec table in any locale, and the model's Middle East address opens the current Galaxy S family page, which does not mention the S8 at all

Specification ambiguity: Some spec fields on this page (battery_mah, charge_w, chip, ram_gb, screen_type) could not be matched to the manufacturer's own page — either the maker does not publish them, publishes a different figure, or the name covers more than one variant. Treat them as unconfirmed. Spotted an error? Let us know.
