Overview

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is an upper mid-range phone from Samsung, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 489 (about $690), up to about JOD 575 for higher storage — also an estimate — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: its vivid OLED display. Its chipset is in the strong tier (82/100 on our spec-based index) — on paper a fit for heavy daily use and most games.

Performance-index rank: #21 of 342 Samsung phones we list.

Why consider it?

A 7.6-inch 120Hz inner screen that opens into a small tablet, plus a 6.2-inch cover screen you use as an ordinary phone — on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with 12GB of RAM.

Who it suits

People who read, write and run two apps side by side more than they game, and want a large display that still fits in a pocket.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone who needs a battery that survives a heavy day, fast charging, or the longest possible update runway.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

The Galaxy Z Fold5 is Samsung's fifth-generation book-style foldable, announced on 26 July 2023 and generally available from 11 August. The whole argument is the two screens: a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover display with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz that you use exactly like a normal phone, and a 7.6-inch panel of the same type inside, running 1-120Hz, that you open when you want the space. Samsung quotes peak brightness of up to 1,750 nits on the inner screen.

Underneath is a 2023 flagship: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, 12GB of RAM, and storage from 256GB up to 1TB. The rear camera is a real triple — a 50MP main with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and that last one is what separates it from most folding phones. There are two front cameras: a 10MP on the cover and a 4MP under-display camera on the inner screen (our catalog records only the first).

What has to be weighed against that: a 4,400mAh battery with 25W wired charging, and an IPX8 rating that covers water but carries no dust rating at all, so sand and dust sit outside any protection claim. And the point that matters most in 2026 — it shipped on Android 13, and Samsung's promise of four OS generations and five years of security updates is counted from August 2023, not from the day you buy it, so the remaining runway is far shorter than on anything else at this price. We have not tested this device; everything above comes from Samsung's own specification sheet, and our price is an estimate reaching up to ≈ 575.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • OnePlus 15R — If it is the big screen you want and not the fold: a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and a 7,400mAh battery at around 489 — roughly double the Fold5's cell in the same price band. (489 JOD · observed) full comparison ›
  • Galaxy S26 — At JOD 485 (observed), it is JOD 4 cheaper. Compare the variants before deciding: 256GB+ versus 256GB+ storage, 4,300 versus 4,400 mAh, and Exynos 2600 versus Snapdragon 8 Gen2. These are specification differences, not measured performance or battery life. (485 JOD · observed) full comparison ›

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

If the large folding screen is the feature you are actually paying for, ≈ 489 is a defensible number for this hardware — provided you accept 4,400mAh and 25W charging, and understand that the five-year update clock started in August 2023, not on the day you buy it.

What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Snapdragon 8 Gen2 — a strong tier (82/100 on specs), on paper suited to most games and demanding apps.
Battery: 4,400 mAh — a mid-size capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 25W — standard (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: Foldable AMOLED, 7.6-inch — an OLED panel (true blacks, higher contrast than LCD).
Camera: 50+12+10 MP (3 lenses) plus a 10 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Two Dynamic AMOLED 2X screens at 120Hz — 7.6 inches inside and 6.2 inches on the cover — both stated by Samsung.
  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy with 12GB of RAM and storage from 256GB up to 1TB.
  • A genuine triple rear camera including 3x optical zoom (50MP + 12MP + 10MP), which most foldables do not offer.

Cons

  • A 4,400mAh battery and only 25W wired charging for a device driving a 7.6-inch panel.
  • IPX8 covers water, but Samsung publishes no dust rating for this device.
  • It launched on Android 13 in August 2023 with four OS generations and five years of security updates — the runway left in 2026 is short.
