Overview

The Huawei P50 Pocket is a mid-range phone from Huawei, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 299 (about $420) — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: its vivid OLED display. Its chipset is mid-tier (66/100 on our spec-based index) — the usual class for social media, video, photos and light games.

Performance-index rank: #18 of 226 Huawei phones we list.

Why consider it?

A late-2021 flip foldable at ≈ 299 JD: a 6.9-inch 21:9 main screen running up to 120Hz, a 1.04-inch 340 x 340 cover screen, and three rear lenses Huawei calls the Ultra Spectrum Camera Matrix - none of which is a telephoto.

Who it suits

Someone who wants a foldable with a genuinely unusual camera set, and who will use the cover screen for notifications, calls and rear-camera selfies.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone who shoots at distance, anyone who wants wireless charging or a published water-resistance rating, and anyone who needs 5G.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

The source used is Huawei's global English table in an archived copy from February 2023, the live product page having disappeared from every market tried, the Middle East sites included. The main screen is 6.9 inches of OLED at 2790 x 1188 and 442ppi with 1.07 billion colours, running up to 120Hz with 300Hz touch sampling, to which Huawei adds a Nano Optical Layer and P3 coverage. The cover screen is 1.04 inches of OLED at 340 x 340 and 328ppi, 60Hz with 120Hz touch sampling. The processor is the Snapdragon 888 4G, eight cores comprising an X1 at 2.84GHz, three A78 cores at 2.42GHz and four A55 cores at 1.8GHz, with an Adreno 660 GPU under EMUI 12. Memory is 8GB with 256GB on the standard model and 12GB with 512GB on the Premium Edition. The rear cameras, listed in Huawei's own order, are a 40MP True-Chroma main at f/1.8, a 13MP f/2.2 ultra-wide, and a 32MP Ultra Spectrum camera at f/1.8; Huawei defines the Ultra Spectrum Camera Matrix as those three plus a 10-channel multi-spectrum sensor, an Ultra Spectrum illuminator and an autofocus laser. Zoom is digital only. Huawei puts a 10.7 MP f/2.2 unit behind the cover display. The battery is 4,000mAh with 40W wired charging and nothing else, and connectivity is Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and USB-C at USB 2.0.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • Oppo Find N2 Flip — The same ≈ 299 JD, a year newer and also a flip foldable, on a Dimensity 9000+ with a 4,300mAh battery on our record - against only two rear lenses, with no spectral third camera. (299 JOD · estimate)
  • Poco F6 Pro — Also ≈ 299 JD, with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a 5,000mAh battery, 5G and Google's store - but it is an ordinary bar phone with no second screen. (299 JOD · estimate)

Strengths and trade-offs in detail ›

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

If what draws you in is a foldable with a camera set that looks like nothing else - a 10-channel multi-spectrum sensor, a spectral illuminator and a fluorescence mode Huawei names outright - that is what ≈ 299 JD buys. The published limit is blunt: no telephoto, no wireless charging, no water-resistance rating, and 4G only.

What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Snapdragon 888 4G — mid tier (66/100) for social media, video and light-to-medium games.
Battery: 4,000 mAh — a mid-size capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 40W — fast (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: Foldable OLED, 6.9-inch — an OLED panel (true blacks, higher contrast than LCD).
Camera: 40+13+32 MP (3 lenses) plus a 10.7 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Two panels on Huawei's table: a 6.9-inch OLED main screen at 2790 x 1188 and 442ppi in 21:9, up to 120Hz with 1,440Hz PWM dimming, and a 1.04-inch OLED cover screen at 340 x 340 and 60Hz that carries notifications, calls and walking navigation.
  • The three rear lenses, in Huawei's order: a 40MP True-Chroma main at f/1.8, a 13MP f/2.2 ultra-wide covering 120 degrees, and a 32MP Ultra Spectrum camera at f/1.8. Huawei adds a 10-channel multi-spectrum sensor, an Ultra Spectrum illuminator and an AF laser, with macro from 2.5cm.
  • Upper-tier 2021 hardware: the 4G version of the Snapdragon 888 with an Adreno 660, 8GB/256GB (12GB/512GB on the Premium Edition), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 with LDAC, USB-C with DisplayPort 1.2 output, and a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

Cons

  • There is no optical zoom of any kind: the "Zoom Mode" row on Huawei's table reads "Digital Zoom" and nothing else, and the third lens is a spectral camera rather than a telephoto.
  • No wireless charging: Huawei's own footnote states that only wired charging is supported, capped at 40W on a 4,000mAh battery (3,900mAh rated).
  • Huawei publishes no water or dust resistance rating for this model at all, the network table stops at LTE, and the OS is EMUI 12 with apps from AppGallery, which Huawei calls "the official app distribution platform for HUAWEI devices".
