Overview

The iPhone 6 is a budget phone from Apple, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 22 (about $30) — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: its practical balance of price and specs. Its chipset is basic (24/100) — calls, WhatsApp and light browsing, as a first or backup phone.

Performance-index rank: #45 of 46 Apple phones we list — and its performance-per-dinar is among the highest we list (an arithmetic ratio, not a verdict on value).

Why consider it?

A September 2014 phone now offered at around ≈ 22, the cheapest way into iOS on this list — and the one in the worst software position. The last OS branch to reach the iPhone 6 is iOS 12, and Apple lists it as obsolete worldwide, meaning official service has stopped and service providers cannot order parts for it.

Who it suits

An emergency handset kept in a glovebox, a calls-only line, or something to play audio at home — not daily use.

Who should look elsewhere

Not for anyone looking for a phone to carry every day: a 2018 OS, a long list of apps that will not install, and no official repair path at all.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

Apple's own specifications page for the iPhone 6 lists a 4.7-inch IPS display at 1334-by-750 and 326 ppi, an A8 chip with 64-bit architecture and an M8 motion coprocessor, an 8-megapixel iSight camera at ƒ/2.2 recording 1080p video at 30 or 60 fps with no 4K, a 1.2-megapixel front camera, a fingerprint sensor in the Home button, a Lightning connector, capacities of 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB, and a weight of 129 grams. Apple publishes no mAh capacity, no RAM figure and no charging wattage; it publishes usage claims for a new 2014 handset instead: up to 14 hours of talk time on 3G, 11 hours of video and 50 hours of audio.

One point gets confused constantly: the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6s are genuinely different generations, not two versions of one phone. The 6s carries an A9 chip, a 12-megapixel rear camera, 4K video, a 5-megapixel front camera and 3D Touch, and the iPhone 6 has none of them. The gap widens on the software side. Apple's security releases page shows the last thing to reach the iPhone 6 is the iOS 12 branch — specifically iOS 12.5.8 on 26 January 2026, with Apple noting that the update "has no published CVE entries" — while the 6s received iOS 15.8.8 in May 2026. The iOS 27 device list begins at iPhone 11.

On top of that, Apple lists the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus as obsolete worldwide, and its published definition is blunt: all hardware service ends and service providers cannot order parts. Add a battery that is twelve years old — Apple writes that batteries are consumable components that chemically age, and names the iPhone 6 among the models covered by performance management.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • Galaxy S5 — For a small step up (≈ 25) you get a 5.1-inch screen, Android and a user-replaceable battery in its original design, but it is equally a 2014 device whose software support ended years ago. This is a comparison between two old phones, not between old and current. (25 JOD · estimate)

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

Do not buy this as a daily phone in 2026 under any circumstances. At ≈ 22 it may serve as an emergency handset or a music player; beyond that, the same money plus a little more buys the cheapest new phone on the market, which wins on every measure — an OS that still gets upgrades, apps that install, and a warranty and parts that actually exist.

What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Apple A8 — basic tier (24/100): calls, WhatsApp and light browsing.
Battery: 1,810 mAh — a relatively small capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 5W — standard (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: LCD HD+, 4.7-inch — an LCD panel; lower contrast than OLED, and the norm at this price.
Camera: 8 MP (1 lens) plus a 2 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • The cheapest of this generation, and adequate for nothing more than calls, messages and audio playback
  • Apple has not cut everything off at once: the security releases page lists iOS 12.5.8, dated 26 January 2026, for devices including iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, with Apple's own note that the update "has no published CVE entries"
  • Small and light: 4.7 inches at 129 grams on Apple's page, lighter than almost any new phone

Cons

  • Its official status: Apple lists iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus as obsolete worldwide, and its published definition is that all hardware service stops and service providers cannot order parts
  • Frozen on the iOS 12 branch while Apple's iOS 27 list starts at iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd generation) — a fifteen-version gap
  • The camera hardware is dated even within its own generation: an 8MP rear at ƒ/2.2 with 1080p and no 4K, and a front camera Apple lists at just 1.2 megapixels

Note: Unverified reference estimate (derived from launch pricing and comparable phones) — a starting point for negotiation, not a confirmed price. Specs come from official manufacturer announcements and the locally available variant may differ slightly; the indices are computed from specs and we have not tested the phone ourselves. USD equivalents use the official peg.
Specification ambiguity: Some spec fields on this page (battery_mah, charge_w, front_cam, ram_gb, storage) could not be matched to the manufacturer's own page — either the maker does not publish them, publishes a different figure, or the name covers more than one variant. Treat them as unconfirmed. Spotted an error? Let us know.
