Overview

The Motorola Edge 20 Pro is a lower mid-range phone from Motorola, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 129 (about $180) — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: its 108 MP main camera, and its strong 32 MP selfie camera. Its chipset is mid-tier (61/100 on our spec-based index) — the usual class for social media, video, photos and light games.

Performance-index rank: #15 of 216 Motorola phones we list.

Why consider it?

Motorola's near-flagship for 2021: a Snapdragon 870 with 12 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage, a 108 MP main sensor at 1/1.5-inch optical format, the company's first periscope lens, and a 6.7-inch OLED running at 144Hz. Our own figure is ≈ 129.

Who it suits

Someone who wants genuine optical reach and a large main sensor on a mid-range budget and does not mind a 2021 device, given that its hardware sheet still beats most of what sells at this price.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone who needs a secure, patched system. Motorola wrote the commitment down plainly: at least two OS upgrades and two years of bi-monthly security updates, counted from August 2021, so it lapsed years ago.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

Motorola's release of 29 July 2021 is the only live source left for this model, and it gives the pro its clearest paragraphs. The main sensor is 108 MP at a 1/1.5-inch optical format, which the company calls one of its largest ever, using what it names Ultra Pixel technology to combine nine pixels into one for nine times the light sensitivity. The second module is an ultra-wide with Macro Vision built in, focusing as close as 3 cm. The third is Motorola's first periscope-style telephoto, bending light through 90 degrees for 5x reach, with a 50x Super Zoom mode and 8K recording, also a first for the company.

The display is a 6.7-inch Max Vision OLED with 10-bit colour, the DCI-P3 gamut and HDR10+, at a 144Hz refresh rate that Motorola presents as its first. The platform is a Snapdragon 870 with 12 GB of memory, 256 GB of storage and Wi-Fi 6.

On the battery the company says only 'over 30 hours on 5G' and quotes a TurboPower 30 charger giving nine hours of power in ten minutes, without stating a capacity, though it states one for both siblings in the same text.

The decisive line is written out in full: the three edge 20 devices 'will receive at least 2 major Android OS upgrades and 2 years of bi-monthly security updates'. The edge 20 pro did duly appear on Motorola's Android 12 upgrade list in December 2021, and its name is now absent from the current security-updates page.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • Xiaomi 13 Lite — Cheaper by ≈ 4 and about eighteen months newer, with a 6.55-inch 120Hz screen, though our record scores its specs clearly lower and its 50 MP main camera has no optical zoom beside it. (125 JOD · estimate)

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

Take it if camera reach and a large sensor are the reason you are buying and you accept running a phone that receives nothing; skip it if patched software is part of what you consider a working phone, because the window Motorola itself committed to here was two years, and it is long past.

What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Snapdragon 870 — mid tier (61/100) for social media, video and light-to-medium games.
Battery: 4,500 mAh — a mid-size capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 30W — standard (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: OLED FHD+, 6.7-inch — an OLED panel (true blacks, higher contrast than LCD).
Camera: 108+16+8 MP (3 lenses) plus a 32 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Motorola's first periscope camera, bending light through 90 degrees for 5x reach, with a Super Zoom mode that goes to 50x.
  • A 108 MP main sensor at 1/1.5-inch optical format that combines nine pixels into one, plus 8K video, a first for a Motorola phone.
  • A Snapdragon 870 with 12 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage behind a 10-bit, DCI-P3, HDR10+ OLED panel at 144Hz.

Cons

  • The published promise was modest to begin with, two upgrades and two years of patches, and it has been used up; the model is no longer in Motorola's supported-device list.
  • Motorola never published a battery capacity in mAh for this particular model, even though the same release gives exact figures for the edge 20 and edge 20 lite, so the number in our record has no manufacturer source.
  • Charging tops out at TurboPower 30, well below what became normal in this class after this generation, and the manufacturer mentions no wireless charging.

Note: Unverified reference estimate (derived from launch pricing and comparable phones) — a starting point for negotiation, not a confirmed price. Specs come from official manufacturer announcements and the locally available variant may differ slightly; the indices are computed from specs and we have not tested the phone ourselves. USD equivalents use the official peg.
Specification ambiguity: Some spec fields on this page (battery_mah, front_cam, rear_cam, screen_type) could not be matched to the manufacturer's own page — either the maker does not publish them, publishes a different figure, or the name covers more than one variant. Treat them as unconfirmed. Spotted an error? Let us know.
