Overview

The Nubia RedMagic 9 Pro is a mid-range phone from Nubia, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 379 (about $535), up to about JOD 439 for higher storage — also an estimate — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: its big 6,500 mAh battery, and ultra-fast 80W charging. Its chipset is in the strong tier (86/100 on our spec-based index) — on paper a fit for heavy daily use and most games.

Performance-index rank: #8 of 59 Nubia phones we list.

Why consider it?

A 2023-generation gaming phone that still carries what most others have dropped: a centrifugal fan inside the body, touch shoulder triggers, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and an unbroken screen because the selfie camera sits under the panel.

Who it suits

Buyers who want the full gaming hardware set for the least money and do not mind 2023 silicon — and who still want a wired headphone port.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone buying a phone to keep for years: RedMagic makes no public commitment to any number of Android upgrades for this series.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

The table used here is the global edition of RedMagic's site, and every figure in our record for this model matches it: 6.8 inches, 120 Hz, 6,500 mAh, 80 W, 50+50+2 at the back and 16 MP in front.

The panel is a BOE Q9+ AMOLED at 2480x1116 — FHD+ — refreshing up to 120 Hz at 1,600 nits maximum behind Gorilla Glass, with a 93.7% screen-to-body ratio and a stated colour accuracy under Delta-E 1. Two details are worth pulling out: PWM dimming at 2,160 Hz, and a touch sampling rate that RedMagic splits into 960 Hz overall for multi-touch and 2,000 Hz instantaneous.

Cooling is the ICE 13 system: a centrifugal fan with 59 blades, each 0.1 mm thick, at 22,000 RPM, together with a dual-pump vapour chamber nubia calls 3D Ice Step, an aerospace aluminium frame, and copper foil and graphene under the display. Despite all of that, no water or dust resistance line appears in the table at all.

Cameras: the main is a 50 MP Samsung GN5 at 1/1.57 inch with optical stabilisation and a 7P anti-glare lens; behind it are a second 50 MP lens and a 2 MP unit whose functions RedMagic never specifies; in front, a 16 MP second-generation under-display camera at f/2.0.

Then the everyday hardware: USB 3.2 with video output, a 3.5 mm jack, Bluetooth 5.3, tri-band Wi-Fi including the be standard, 520 Hz shoulder triggers, and 229 g on an 8.9 mm body.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • Poco F7 — At the same price the Poco F7 offers far newer silicon (Snapdragon 8s Gen 4), a 6.83-inch screen and a matching 6,500 mAh battery — in exchange for giving up the fan, the triggers and one of the rear lenses. (379 JOD · estimate) full comparison ›

Strengths and trade-offs in detail ›

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

Worth it if you are buying for one narrow purpose — gaming — and accept 2023 silicon in exchange for a real fan, shoulder triggers and 6,500 mAh at ≈ 379 JD, up to ≈ 439 for the larger configurations. If how long the phone stays updated is part of the decision, RedMagic offers this series nothing more than critical security patch maintenance decided model by model, with no Android upgrade count attached — and that is its real ceiling.

What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Snapdragon 8 Gen3 — a strong tier (86/100 on specs), on paper suited to most games and demanding apps.
Battery: 6,500 mAh — a very large capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 80W — among the fastest around (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: AMOLED FHD+, 6.8-inch — an OLED panel (true blacks, higher contrast than LCD).
Camera: 50+50+2 MP (3 lenses) plus a 16 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with Kryo cores to 3.3 GHz and a Red Core 2 Pro companion chip, LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 storage in 12+256 or 16+512.
  • A 6,500 mAh dual-cell battery, with RedMagic stating outright that the 80 W charger is in the box.
  • One rarely published detail is on the sheet: PWM dimming at 2,160 Hz, on an AMOLED of 2480x1116 with 1,600 nits maximum brightness.

Cons

  • No IP rating is published for this model at all, so water and dust sit outside what the sheet guarantees.
  • The listed software is REDMAGIC OS 9.0 on Android 14, and the update policy limits the two-Android-generation pledge to the 11 Pro and newer.
  • Three rear lenses, 50+50+2, with no optical zoom; only the main sensor is named (Samsung GN5, 1/1.57-inch) and the other two roles are left unstated.
