Where our prices come from — and why yours may differ

The question we get most is: «why isn't your price the same as the one I saw in a shop?» The short answer is that we don't sell phones — we track the market. Here's exactly how.

Where the price comes from

We collect real selling prices from market listings and retailers, then take the median (the middle value) after discarding outliers — because a plain average gets dragged around by a single inflated listing. The result is a number close to what people actually pay, not the cheapest ad and not the most expensive one.

Why your local price can differ

• Taxes and duties: sales tax and import duties are added before a phone reaches the shelf, and they vary a lot by country.
• Import margins: smaller markets buy smaller volumes, so the margin per unit is higher.
• Official vs grey market: an officially imported unit with local warranty costs more than a parallel import of the same phone.
• Carrier deals: in countries where phones are sold on contract, the sticker price you see may be subsidised.

What «approximate» means

It's a reference number for comparison, not a quote. The same phone can vary 5–10% between sellers, and more depending on the storage tier (128 vs 256GB) and warranty type. Use our figure to compare phones against each other — then confirm the final price with the seller.

How often we update

We review prices monthly, and every phone page shows the month of the last update. From this month on, the site also records how each price moved between updates, so you can see whether a phone got cheaper or more expensive — and we publish a summary in the news section.
