Overview

The Huawei Nova 12i is a budget phone from Huawei, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 115 (about $160), up to about JOD 135 for higher storage — also an estimate — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: its 108 MP main camera, and its large 5,000 mAh battery. Its chipset is basic (26/100) — calls, WhatsApp and light browsing, as a first or backup phone.

Performance-index rank: #120 of 226 Huawei phones we list.

Why consider it?

The nova 12i puts a 108MP main sensor, a 5000mAh battery and 40W SuperCharge Turbo 2.0 into a ≈ 115 JD phone. But Huawei's own spec sheet names the operating system as "EMUI 14" with no Android version and no Google services listed — and that, not the numbers, is what you are really deciding on.

Who it suits

Someone who wants a big screen, long battery life and fast charging on a tight budget, and who has already checked that the apps they actually depend on are available through Huawei's AppGallery.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone who needs Google Play apps working from first boot without workarounds, or who wants 5G — Huawei lists 4G, 3G and 2G bands only.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

The chip is a Snapdragon 680: four Cortex-A73 cores at 2.4GHz, four A53 at 1.9GHz, Adreno 610 graphics. It is built for messaging, browsing and video rather than demanding games, and it carries no 5G modem at all.

The 6.7-inch panel is LCD at FHD+ (1080x2388) with an adaptive 30/60/90Hz refresh rate. LCD means blacks read as dark grey rather than switching off the way an AMOLED pixel does, but the adaptive rate dropping to 30Hz on static content is a real battery saving. Touch sampling is 270Hz, modest by 2026 standards.

The camera is where the spec sheet flatters the phone. 108MP at f/1.9 sounds impressive, but the only other lens is a 2MP depth sensor: there is no ultra-wide, no optical zoom, and all zooming is digital. Video maxes out at 1080p even from the rear camera. How the photos actually look is not something a spec sheet answers, and we have not tested this phone.

The genuine strength is simpler: 5000mAh, 40W, charger in the box.

One detail worth catching — Huawei's sensor list names a gravity sensor, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, a compass and an ambient light sensor, but no gyroscope. Apps and games that rely on tilting the phone may not behave as expected. Connectivity stops at Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0, with NFC supported and a USB-C port in place of a 3.5mm jack.

The body is 8.4mm thick at roughly 199g, and Huawei's in-box list includes a charger, a USB-C cable and a clear case depending on market. Huawei also advertises image resolution up to 12000x9000 pixels, which is a processing output rather than a sensor size, so it is not a figure to lean on by itself.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • Galaxy A53 5G — For roughly the same money (≈ 115 JD) you get 5G, a 120Hz screen and ordinary Android with the Play Store, in exchange for a smaller 6.5-inch panel and a 64MP main camera instead of 108MP. (115 JOD · estimate)
  • Oppo A60 — The same Snapdragon 680 and the same 5000mAh battery at ≈ 115 JD; you trade the 108MP sensor for a 50MP one, but you stay on standard Android with no app-availability homework to do first. (115 JOD · estimate) full comparison ›

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

If the apps you cannot live without are on AppGallery — or you already know how you will handle the ones that are not — the battery and charging make ≈ 115 JD reasonable. The honest limit: this is a software decision, not a spec decision, and no spec sheet can tell you whether your particular apps will work on it.

What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Snapdragon 680 — basic tier (26/100): calls, WhatsApp and light browsing.
Battery: 5,000 mAh — a large capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 40W — fast (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: LCD 90Hz, 6.7-inch — an LCD panel; lower contrast than OLED, and the norm at this price.
Camera: 108+2 MP (2 lenses) plus a 8 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • 5000mAh (4900mAh rated) with 40W HUAWEI SuperCharge Turbo 2.0, and Huawei's own in-box list includes the charger — generous for a ≈ 115 JD phone.
  • 108MP f/1.9 main camera with autofocus, a higher-resolution main sensor than most phones in this price band offer.
  • 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, and Huawei's support page also lists a 256GB version of the same CTR-L81 model.

Cons

  • Huawei lists the OS as "EMUI 14" with no Android version and no mention of Google services; AppGallery is, in Huawei's own wording, "the official app distribution platform for HUAWEI devices".
  • 4G only — the spec sheet lists LTE, WCDMA and GSM bands for both SIMs and not a single 5G band.
  • Video recording is capped at 1920×1080 and zoom is digital only, despite that 108MP sensor.
