Overview

The iPhone 17 Pro is a flagship phone from Apple, with the 256GB variant (new) observed from about JOD 834 (about $1,180) in local classified listings for new units on 30 September 2026; higher storage tiers are our estimate at about JOD 1,399 (not observed). Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: its top-tier Apple A19 Pro chipset, and its sharp, bright display. Its chipset sits in the top tier (99/100 on our spec-based index) — the class usually chosen for heavy gaming, video editing and intensive use.

Performance-index rank: #4 of 46 Apple phones we list.

Why consider it?

The iPhone 17 Pro is the compact 2025 Pro: a 6.3-inch 120Hz OLED, the A19 Pro chip, and three rear cameras that are all 48MP according to Apple's own comparison page. The one concrete reason to pick it over the previous Pro is that storage now starts at 256GB instead of 128GB and the telephoto jumped from 12MP to 48MP with 4x optical zoom.

Who it suits

A good fit for someone already committed to iOS who shoots a lot at zoom and wants a phone small enough for one hand without giving up a real telephoto.

Who should look elsewhere

Not for a buyer who wants the longest possible battery life per dinar, since Android rivals in this same price band carry far larger cells and much faster wired charging.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

The A19 Pro pairs a 6-core CPU with a 6-core GPU that has Neural Accelerators built into it, which is enough silicon for heavy games and video editing, though nothing on a spec page tells you how warm it runs or when it eases off under a long session. On cameras: a 48MP main with second-generation sensor-shift stabilisation, a genuine 48MP ultra wide, and a 48MP telephoto with its own optical stabilisation and 4x optical reach, plus 0.5x, 2x and 8x framing stops — that is real zoom hardware rather than a digital crop, but the look of the final image comes from the lens and processing, not the megapixel count. The 1.5K OLED runs adaptive refresh up to 120Hz and can drop low enough for Always-On, which describes how the panel behaves and says nothing about colour accuracy. Apple quotes up to 33 hours of video playback versus 27 on last year's Pro, though looping video is not the same as a day of camera, maps and mobile data. The 3988mAh capacity and 40W wired figure are not published on Apple's own page, so hold them loosely.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • iPhone 16 Pro — At JOD 689 (observed), it is JOD 145 cheaper. Compare the variants before deciding: 128GB+ versus 256GB+ storage, 3,355 versus 3,988 mAh, and Apple A18 Pro versus Apple A19 Pro. These are specification differences, not measured performance or battery life. (689 JOD · observed) full comparison ›
  • Vivo X300 — Cheaper by ≈ 35 at ≈ 799: a 6.31-inch 120Hz panel, Dimensity 9500, a 6040mAh battery with 90W charging and a 200MP main camera — in exchange for leaving iOS. (799 JOD · estimate)

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

Worth it if you're staying on iOS, will actually use the 4x telephoto, and the 256GB starting tier matters to you, with the shop price landing near 834. Otherwise — if zoom photography isn't your thing, or you'd be pushed toward the ≈ 1,399 capacity — the extra outlay is hard to justify.

We have not tested this phone hands-on: the analysis above is built from the manufacturer's published specifications and from the price and price status in our record — not from camera or battery measurements we ran, and not from user reviews. What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Apple A19 Pro — top tier on our index (99/100, derived from the chipset class, not from testing). This class is usually chosen for heavy gaming and editing.
Battery: 3,988 mAh — a relatively small capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 40W — fast (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: OLED 1.5K, 6.3-inch — above-FHD resolution; OLED means true blacks and high contrast.
Camera: 48+48+48 MP (3 lenses) plus a 18 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.
