Overview

The iPhone 8 is a budget phone from Apple, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 65 (about $90), up to about JOD 75 for higher storage — also an estimate — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: its practical balance of price and specs. Its chipset is basic (39/100) — calls, WhatsApp and light browsing, as a first or backup phone.

Performance-index rank: #39 of 46 Apple phones we list — and its performance-per-dinar is among the highest we list (an arithmetic ratio, not a verdict on value).

Why consider it?

What separates it from the iPhone 7 is not only speed: it is on Apple's iOS 16 compatibility list while the older phone is not, at an estimated ≈ 65 to ≈ 75 JOD with us.

Who it suits

Someone who wants the smallest, lightest Apple phone for little money, with wireless charging and one more software year than the iPhone 7.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone who needs 5G, a night-capable or ultra-wide camera, or a phone that will still serve as a main line two years from now.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

What sets it apart from the iPhone 7 is written plainly across Apple's two pages: an A11 Bionic with Neural Engine instead of the A10 Fusion, a True Tone display, Bluetooth 5.0 rather than 4.2, a 64 GB minimum capacity instead of 32 GB, Qi wireless charging, and fast charging to fifty percent in half an hour with an 18W or higher adapter sold separately.

The most valuable item, though, appears in no hardware table: this model is included on Apple's list of devices compatible with iOS 16, where the older phone is not. The 16.7 branch still receives security patches, and the newest entry on Apple's security releases page is dated 11 May 2026 and names "iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X". That is a full extra year of software life, and it is the main justification for the price gap.

After that the road ends completely: no place on the iOS 17 list, and none on the iOS 26 list, which starts at the iPhone 11. What you buy today is what you will have forever.

In daily use the screen is 4.7 inches at 1334 by 750 and 326 ppi — smaller and lower-resolution than anything current at this money — and the camera is a single 12 MP ƒ/1.8 unit with optical stabilisation and 4K video up to sixty frames, with no ultra-wide and no Night mode. The spec page lists LTE networks only.

That leaves the battery in a nine-year-old device: ask to see the Battery Health percentage in Settings, and price a replacement into what you pay.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • Mi 8 Pro — At the same price (≈ 65 JOD), a Snapdragon 845, a 6.21-inch screen and a higher place on our spec index — but it is a 2018 phone long out of the update cycle, so the gain is performance and screen size, not working life. (65 JOD · estimate)
  • Mi Note 10 — For the same money (≈ 65 JOD), a claimed 5260 mAh battery, a 6.47-inch screen and a four-camera array — the better choice for anyone who wants longer paper endurance and a bigger display instead of Apple's ecosystem. (65 JOD · estimate)

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

The best pick in this family if a cheap Apple phone is the requirement: the same idea as the iPhone 7 with an extra software year and wireless charging. It is still a phone at the end of its road, so buy it for near-term use, at a genuinely low price, and only after checking the battery.

What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Apple A11 Bionic — basic tier (39/100): calls, WhatsApp and light browsing.
Battery: 1,821 mAh — a relatively small capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 15W — standard (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: LCD HD+, 4.7-inch — an LCD panel; lower contrast than OLED, and the norm at this price.
Camera: 12 MP (1 lens) plus a 7 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • An A11 Bionic with Neural Engine and a longer software life: the phone is on Apple's iOS 16 list, and its most recent listed security patch is dated 11 May 2026
  • Qi wireless charging plus fast charging to 50% in 30 minutes with an 18W or higher adapter (sold separately) — neither exists on the iPhone 7
  • A 148-gram IP67 body, a 64 GB minimum capacity, a True Tone display and Bluetooth 5.0

Cons

  • It appears on neither Apple's iOS 17 list nor the iOS 26 list, so the software stops at iOS 16 and no new feature will ever arrive
  • Apple's page lists LTE bands only — there is no 5G support of any kind
  • A single 12 MP rear camera with no ultra-wide and no Night mode on the sheet, digital zoom only to 5x, and a 7 MP front camera

Note: Unverified reference estimate (derived from launch pricing and comparable phones) — a starting point for negotiation, not a confirmed price. Specs come from official manufacturer announcements and the locally available variant may differ slightly; the indices are computed from specs and we have not tested the phone ourselves. USD equivalents use the official peg.
Specification ambiguity: Some spec fields on this page (battery_mah, charge_w, ram_gb, refresh_hz) could not be matched to the manufacturer's own page — either the maker does not publish them, publishes a different figure, or the name covers more than one variant. Treat them as unconfirmed. Spotted an error? Let us know.
