Overview

The iPhone 8 Plus is a budget phone from Apple, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 85 (about $120), up to about JOD 95 for higher storage — also an estimate — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: its practical balance of price and specs. Its chipset is entry-level (40/100) — for messaging, browsing and video; heavy gaming is not its territory.

Performance-index rank: #37 of 46 Apple phones we list.

Why consider it?

The priciest member of this family with us at an estimated ≈ 85 to ≈ 95 JOD, pairing an A11 chip with a dual camera — but at this money the comparison starts to include phones years newer.

Who it suits

Someone who wants Portrait mode with a real telephoto lens and a full-HD screen inside Apple's ecosystem, at the lowest possible cost.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone who dislikes heavy phones, anyone buying a handset to keep for years, and anyone who needs 5G or a night-capable camera.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

This is the most expensive member of the family with us, which earns it harder scrutiny than its siblings. What it actually offers, per Apple: an A11 Bionic with Neural Engine, a 5.5-inch 1920-by-1080 True Tone display at 401 ppi, a dual 12 MP camera with 2x optical zoom, Portrait mode and Portrait Lighting with five effects, Qi wireless charging and fast charging to fifty percent in half an hour with an 18W or higher adapter, and rated runtimes of up to fourteen hours of video and sixty hours of audio as published for a new 2017 handset.

Against that: 202 grams and 158.4 mm tall, the heaviest phone in this comparison, and a spec page that lists LTE bands with no 5G at all. On software it is missing from Apple's iOS 17 list and from the iOS 26 list, so iOS 16 is the ceiling, with only occasional security patching on the 16.7 branch, most recently dated 11 May 2026.

This is where the arithmetic flips with the price. At the bottom of the band the description stays fair: a cheap Apple phone with two rear lenses. The closer the asking price climbs to the top of the band, the closer that same sum comes to recent handsets that still receive real system updates and arrive with a new battery rather than one entering its ninth year.

The one thing those alternatives cannot replace is Apple's own ecosystem with optical zoom and Portrait mode. If that is not specifically what you need, your money does more elsewhere.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ — For roughly the same money (≈ 85 JOD), a 2024 handset with a claimed 5000 mAh battery and a 6.78-inch 120 Hz screen — its main advantage being that it is new and still inside its software life, though our price for it is an estimate. (85 JOD · estimate)
  • Poco X3 Pro — At the same price (≈ 85 JOD), a Snapdragon 860, a claimed 5160 mAh battery, a 120 Hz panel and a clearly higher spec-index placement — although it is an older phone without 5G as well. (85 JOD · estimate)

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

It makes sense at the bottom of its price band and for one specific purpose: portrait photography and a larger screen inside Apple's system, for a year or two at most. At the top of the band the logic inverts, because the same sum buys a new phone with a new battery and an OS that still gets updated. Do not treat it as a long-term purchase.

What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Apple A11 Bionic — entry level (40/100) for messaging, browsing and video; not aimed at heavy gaming.
Battery: 2,691 mAh — a relatively small capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 15W — standard (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: IPS LCD FHD+, 5.5-inch — an LCD panel; lower contrast than OLED, and the norm at this price.
Camera: 12+12 MP (2 lenses) plus a 7 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • A dual 12 MP wide and telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom, Portrait mode and Portrait Lighting with five effects, per Apple's page
  • A 5.5-inch 1920-by-1080 True Tone display at 401 ppi, with rated runtimes of up to 14 hours video and 60 hours audio
  • An A11 Bionic with Neural Engine, Qi wireless charging, and fast charging to 50% in 30 minutes with an 18W or higher adapter

Cons

  • 202 grams and 158.4 mm — the heaviest and largest phone here, for only 5.5 inches of screen between thick bezels
  • Its ceiling is iOS 16: absent from both Apple's iOS 17 and iOS 26 device lists, with only occasional 16.7 security patches left
  • Apple's page lists LTE bands only, and at the top of its price band the money approaches new phones that have 5G and live software support

Note: Unverified reference estimate (derived from launch pricing and comparable phones) — a starting point for negotiation, not a confirmed price. Specs come from official manufacturer announcements and the locally available variant may differ slightly; the indices are computed from specs and we have not tested the phone ourselves. USD equivalents use the official peg.
Specification ambiguity: Some spec fields on this page (battery_mah, charge_w, ram_gb, refresh_hz) could not be matched to the manufacturer's own page — either the maker does not publish them, publishes a different figure, or the name covers more than one variant. Treat them as unconfirmed. Spotted an error? Let us know.
