Overview

The iPhone XS is a budget phone from Apple, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 115 (about $160), up to about JOD 129 for higher storage — also an estimate — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: its vivid OLED display. Its chipset is entry-level (44/100) — for messaging, browsing and video; heavy gaming is not its territory.

Performance-index rank: #35 of 46 Apple phones we list.

Why consider it?

Essentially the same hardware as the XS Max in a body 70.9 mm wide and 177 grams, at an estimated ≈ 115 to ≈ 129 JOD with us. Size is the only meaningful difference between them; the software road is identical and it stopped at iOS 18.

Who it suits

Someone specifically after a small phone with a dense OLED panel and an optical telephoto, who does not want a slab-sized handset.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone who needs the phone to last for years or depends on OS updates - Apple dropped it from the iOS 26 and iOS 27 lists and files it under vintage products.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

The iPhone XS is the XS Max at a smaller scale: the same A12 Bionic, the same pair of 12MP rear cameras with an f/1.8 Wide and a 2x optical telephoto at f/2.4, dual optical stabilisation, the same IP68 rating to two metres for 30 minutes, and the same dual SIM support. What changes is the panel - 5.8 inches at 2436 by 1125, at an identical 458 ppi - and the body, 143.6 mm tall, 70.9 mm wide, 177 grams. Anyone hunting for a phone that genuinely works one-handed has few new alternatives at this size.

The decision, though, is not settled by the screen. Apple does not list this model among iOS 26 or iOS 27 devices, so its last major release is iOS 18, while the iPhone 11 - newer by a single year - is still on the iOS 27 list. One year of hardware age translates into an entire gap in software lifespan between the two. Apple also files it on its worldwide vintage list, defined as products it stopped distributing more than five and less than seven years ago, and states that service and parts at that point depend on parts availability.

The rest of the sheet is of its era too: a 7MP front camera at 1080p, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, LTE networks only. Apple never published a capacity for the battery; the most it claimed was up to 14 hours of video playback back in 2018, an hour less than the Max. Ask for the Battery Health percentage in Settings before you pay - it is the single line that decides what this phone is worth today, and we have inspected no unit.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • iPhone SE 2020 — The same money (≈ 115 JOD) keeps you inside supported iOS: Apple lists "iPhone SE (2nd generation and later)" among iOS 27 devices. The cost is a 4.7-inch LCD, a single rear camera and a smaller battery. (115 JOD · estimate)
  • Galaxy S20 FE — For the same outlay (≈ 115 JOD) you get a Snapdragon 865, a 6.5-inch 120Hz screen, a 4500 mAh battery, three cameras and a higher spot on our spec index - noting that it is a phone of a similar vintage in years. (115 JOD · estimate)

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

Worth ≈ 115 to ≈ 129 JOD if a small body with a dense OLED and an optical telephoto is exactly what you are after, and you accept that its software path has ended. It makes no sense if you want an iOS phone with life left in it, because the same money buys an iPhone SE (2nd generation), which is still on Apple's iOS 27 device list. The plain limit: the health of a 2018 battery cannot be inferred from any published specification, and we have not tested this phone.

What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Apple A12 Bionic — entry level (44/100) for messaging, browsing and video; not aimed at heavy gaming.
Battery: 2,658 mAh — a relatively small capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 18W — standard (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: OLED FHD+, 5.8-inch — an OLED panel (true blacks, higher contrast than LCD).
Camera: 12+12 MP (2 lenses) plus a 7 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • A 5.8-inch OLED at 2436 by 1125 and 458 ppi in a body 143.6 mm tall weighing 177 grams - the smallest phone in this group, with no loss of pixel density.
  • An A12 Bionic with two 12MP cameras, a 2x optical telephoto and dual optical stabilisation, Smart HDR, 4K video to 60 fps and IP68 to two metres for half an hour.
  • Apple sold it in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB configurations, with dual SIM (nano-SIM plus eSIM) and Qi wireless charging - a wider kit than many new phones at this money provide.

Cons

  • Off Apple's iOS 26 and iOS 27 lists; its software path ends at iOS 18, while the iPhone 11, just one year newer, is still taking iOS 27.
  • On Apple's worldwide vintage list, where Apple's own page states that service and parts are subject to parts availability.
  • A 7MP front camera at 1080p, no Night mode on the spec sheet, LTE only with no 5G, and Apple's own claim of just 14 hours of video playback for a unit that was new in 2018.

Note: Unverified reference estimate (derived from launch pricing and comparable phones) — a starting point for negotiation, not a confirmed price. Specs come from official manufacturer announcements and the locally available variant may differ slightly; the indices are computed from specs and we have not tested the phone ourselves. USD equivalents use the official peg.
Specification ambiguity: Some spec fields on this page (battery_mah, charge_w, ram_gb, refresh_hz) could not be matched to the manufacturer's own page — either the maker does not publish them, publishes a different figure, or the name covers more than one variant. Treat them as unconfirmed. Spotted an error? Let us know.
