Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

Start with the name, because it is genuinely misleading. OPPO ships two separate phones here. The plain 'OPPO A5x' runs a Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 with Adreno 610 graphics, tops out at 90 Hz and carries no 5G radio at all. The 'OPPO A5x 5G' runs a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 with Mali-G57 MC2 graphics at 1,072 MHz, reaches 120 Hz, and covers 5G bands n1/n3/n5/n8/n28B/n40/n41/n77/n78. The configuration recorded on this page matches the second one, and OPPO India is the only site that publishes it — worth knowing before you accept a box that simply says A5x.

What both share is the foundation. The panel is a 6.67-inch (16.94 cm) LCD at 1604×720, HD+ rather than FHD+, but rated at 850 nits typical and 1,000 nits peak, which is unusually bright for the class. The cell is 6,000 mAh typical (5,860 mAh rated) and charges at 45 W SUPERVOOC, with 15 W VOOC, 33 W PPS and 13.5 W PD fallbacks so a generic charger is not wasted on it. OPPO's lab projection has it holding more than 80% of capacity after five years at a full cycle every 1.1 days.

Protection is IP65, with multi-angle drop and impact testing to MIL-STD 810H methodology and SGS certification behind what OPPO calls a 360° Armour Body. Weight is about 194 g, software is ColorOS 15, the fingerprint reader sits on the side, and there is a 3.5 mm jack, an IR blaster, Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 5. Photography is the thin part: one 32 MP f/1.8 rear camera and a 5 MP front unit.

If a big battery and a shell that survives handling are the brief, this does the job at ≈ 119 without surprises — provided you read the box label and confirm you are getting the 5G version rather than its 4G twin. Even then the ceiling does not move with a software update: an HD+ screen and a single rear lens stay with the phone for its whole life.
