Overview

The Vivo iQOO 9 is a lower mid-range phone from Vivo, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 165 (about $235) — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: ultra-fast 120W charging, and its vivid OLED display. Its chipset is mid-tier (69/100 on our spec-based index) — the usual class for social media, video, photos and light games.

Performance-index rank: #49 of 282 Vivo phones we list.

Why consider it?

A 48 MP Sony IMX598 main camera on a mechanical gimbal rather than ordinary optical stabilisation, paired with a Snapdragon 888+ and 120 W charging that iQOO times at eighteen minutes for a full battery.

Who it suits

Someone who photographs people and shoots handheld video, and wants flagship silicon in a body that stops at 6.56 inches.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone who spends long days away from an outlet, or who is shopping for the sharpest panel this money can buy.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

iQOO's India table for the iQOO 9 lists a 5 nm Snapdragon 888+, 8 GB or 12 GB of memory with 128 GB or 256 GB of storage, a 6.56-inch 10-bit AMOLED at 2376x1080 and 120 Hz with a 1200-nit peak, and a 4350 mAh battery with 120 W charging.

The camera line is the part of that page our record had wrong. We listed the third lens as 2 MP; the manufacturer's table says 13 MP, a 50 mm portrait lens with 2x optical zoom at f/2.46. That changes the phone materially, because it means three useful angles rather than two: a 48 MP main on a Sony IMX598 at f/1.79 with the gimbal mount, a 13 MP 120-degree ultra-wide that also handles macro, and then that portrait lens, with a 16 MP camera on the front. A dedicated 50 mm rendering of a face is not the same thing as cropping into the main sensor, and at this price it is unusual.

Set against that, the battery is the smallest in the family, the screen is both smaller and lower-resolution than the 9 Pro's, and neither wireless charging nor a water-resistance rating appears anywhere. Cooling is a 3758 mm2 vapour chamber, joined by two linear motors, two under-display touch zones for gaming and stereo speakers with Hi-Res certification.

For context, this 2022 family has been retired from iQOO's global site, whose oldest listing is now the iQOO 11; the only live pages for the 9 are the Indian ones used here.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • Galaxy S21 Plus — The Galaxy S21 Plus costs ≈ 7 JD less (JOD ≈ 158) and brings a 4800 mAh battery, a 6.7-inch screen and a brand with local presence, against an Exynos 2100 and a 12 MP main camera with no gimbal. (158 JOD · estimate)
  • iPhone 12 — The iPhone 12 is ≈ 5 JD dearer (JOD ≈ 170) and has Apple's long update record behind it - but its screen is 60 Hz and its two cameras include no telephoto. (170 JOD · estimate)

Strengths and trade-offs in detail ›

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

If the camera is what decides it, the gimbal and that 50 mm portrait lens give you something concrete at JOD ≈ 165, and the charging speed takes the sting out of the battery. But the cell really is 4350 mAh, the lowest figure in the family, so a long day out still means finding a charger.

What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Snapdragon 888+ — mid tier (69/100) for social media, video and light-to-medium games.
Battery: 4,350 mAh — a mid-size capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 120W — among the fastest around (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: AMOLED FHD+, 6.56-inch — an OLED panel (true blacks, higher contrast than LCD).
Camera: 48+13+2 MP (3 lenses) plus a 16 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Three genuinely usable focal lengths: a 48 MP main, then a 13 MP 120-degree ultra-wide, then a 13 MP 50 mm portrait lens with 2x optical zoom
  • The main camera rides a mechanical gimbal at f/1.79, and iQOO layers five-axis video stabilisation on top of it
  • 120 W charging quoted at 50% in six minutes and a full charge in eighteen

Cons

  • 4350 mAh (4240 mAh rated) is the smallest cell of the four phones in the iQOO 9 family
  • The 6.56-inch panel runs at 2376x1080 - no 2K, and no adaptive LTPO as on the 9 Pro
  • The official page lists no wireless charging and no ingress rating, and the phone shipped on Android 12
