Figures as published (August 7, 2026). Prices written in the article text are our catalog's figures when it was written, and prices move — each phone's current price and its status (observed with a date, or an estimate) are on its page and in the “Phones mentioned” cards below, and any device or brand count above belongs to that date.
The band people actually shop in is neither flagship nor entry level — it is JOD 200 to 350. We track 296 devices inside it, and the median performance index across them is 66 out of 100. Half the band sits below that number, which alone explains why choosing here is harder than in any other band.
Why this is the real balance point
The reason is simple: last year's flagship chip drops into this band. The OnePlus Ace 3 Pro at JOD 289 ships with a Snapdragon 8 Gen3 and a performance index of 88, plus a 6100 mAh battery with 100W charging. Slightly above it, the Galaxy S25 at JOD 340 runs a Snapdragon 8 Elite for an index of 91 — the highest figure in the band. Raw processing power is effectively a solved problem under JOD 350.
The basics have settled too. A 120Hz AMOLED panel is now the norm rather than the exception: the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro at JOD 349 pairs a 6.83-inch AMOLED 1.5K screen with a 7550 mAh battery and 90W charging. At that spec level, the day-to-day gap between it and a phone costing twice as much shows up in the camera first.
But the average here is not high
A median of 66 is not a strong number, and it means plenty of phones at this price charge you for the screen or the badge rather than the performance. The Galaxy A57 5G at JOD 299 scores 62 on an Exynos 1680, and the Nothing Phone (4b) at JOD 259 scores 54. Neither is a bad phone, but if performance is your priority, far stronger options exist at the same price.
- OnePlus Ace 3 Pro — JOD 289, Snapdragon 8 Gen3 with a performance index of 88 and a 6100 mAh battery at 100W.
- Galaxy S25 — JOD 340 and the highest index in the band at 91, but only a 4000 mAh battery, 25W charging and a 6.2-inch screen.
- Redmi Turbo 4 Pro — JOD 349 with 7550 mAh, a 6.83-inch AMOLED 1.5K panel and an index of 88.
- Honor 90 Pro — JOD 239 with a 200+32+12 camera and a 50MP front sensor, but a 2023 chip and an index of 77.
- Galaxy A57 5G — JOD 299, a 2026 release with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED+ screen and 45W charging, at an index of 62.
When paying above 350 is worth it
The camera. Most phones in this band use a 50+8 setup: one good main sensor and a second lens that fills space. Exceptions exist: the Honor 90 Pro at JOD 239 with a 200+32+12 camera, the Meizu 21 at JOD 265 with a 200+13+5 camera and an index of 88, and the Xiaomi 12T Pro at JOD 205 with a 200+8+2 camera and 120W charging. All three are 2022 and 2023 releases, so you win on optics and take an older device in return.
The bottom line: if you use your phone for apps, messaging and gaming, this band covers you completely and there is no need to climb higher. If the camera is your first priority — multiple lenses and optical zoom — the real jump happens above JOD 350, and there you are paying for optics and the panel, not for the processor.
