Overview
The Galaxy S22 is a lower mid-range phone from Samsung, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 185 (about $260), up to about JOD 215 for higher storage — also an estimate — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.
Its main highlights: its vivid OLED display. Its chipset is mid-tier (73/100 on our spec-based index) — the usual class for social media, video, photos and light games.
Performance-index rank: #32 of 342 Samsung phones we list.
Why consider it?
The S22 is the model where Samsung drew the line inside its own generation: it shares the S22+'s silicon and its cameras, and gives up the battery, the charging speed, Wi-Fi 6E and ultra-wideband. What is left, at an estimated ≈ 185-≈ 215 JD, is a 168g body around a 6.1-inch 120Hz screen and three rear cameras including a real 3x optical zoom.
Who it suits
Someone who wants a phone that works one-handed with flagship camera hardware - a stabilised 50MP main and a genuine telephoto - and does not mind one extra charge during the day.
Who should look elsewhere
Anyone out all day without a charger: the battery is 3,700mAh typical, 3,590mAh rated, under a panel that reaches 120Hz.
Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence
The table in Samsung's 9 February 2022 release sets the S22 and S22+ in adjacent columns, and reading them together explains what was kept and what was removed in the smaller model. Shared: a full-HD Dynamic AMOLED 2X with an adaptive 10-120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate in game mode; three rear cameras - a 50MP f/1.8 main with Dual Pixel AF and OIS, a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide and a 10MP f/2.4 3x optical telephoto with OIS - plus a 10MP front camera; an IP68 rating; and Android 12 with One UI 4.1. The differences all run against this model: a 6.1-inch panel peaking at 1,300 nits against 1,750, a 3,700mAh typical battery (3,590mAh rated) against 4,500mAh, 25W charging against 45W, Wi-Fi 6 against 6E, and ultra-wideband on the larger model only. The body is 70.6 x 146mm, 7.6mm thick and 168g. The processor stays an open question: the AP row reads 'Advanced 4nm Processing' with a note that it may differ by market and carrier, Samsung India announced that its whole S22 line runs Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 there, and the regional support catalogue carries both SM-S901B and SM-S901E. The chip on our record therefore describes one market's build. On software, Samsung committed the series to four Android generations from Android 12, and its security page now places it in the quarterly bracket.
Alternatives worth comparing
- Poco F5 — At roughly the same money (≈ 185 JD) our catalogue records a 5,000mAh battery and a 6.67-inch 120Hz screen - a direct answer to the endurance problem - in a larger phone with no optical telephoto and no IP68 rating. (185 JOD · estimate) full comparison ›
- Xiaomi 12 — Another small phone at ≈ 185 JD with a 6.28-inch screen, a 4,500mAh battery and a chip our record names outright, which is more than can be confirmed for the S22 itself. (185 JOD · estimate) full comparison ›

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above
A coherent choice between ≈ 185 and ≈ 215 JD for someone who wants a small body with flagship camera hardware and a water-resistant frame. The honest limit is written into Samsung's own table: 3,700mAh and 25W, two numbers that do not improve however the rest of the phone is configured.

What does that mean in plain words?
Battery: 3,700 mAh — a relatively small capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 25W — standard (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: AMOLED FHD+, 6.1-inch — an OLED panel (true blacks, higher contrast than LCD).
Camera: 50+12+10 MP (3 lenses) plus a 10 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.
Pros & cons
Pros
- A 6.1-inch full-HD Dynamic AMOLED 2X with an adaptive 10-120Hz refresh rate, a 240Hz touch sampling rate in game mode, and 1,300 nits peak brightness on Samsung's figures.
- Three rear cameras: a 50MP f/1.8 main with Dual Pixel AF and OIS, a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide and a 10MP f/2.4 3x optical telephoto with OIS, plus a 10MP front camera.
- A 70.6 x 146mm, 7.6mm, 168g body rated IP68 - to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes under Samsung's test conditions.
Cons
- The battery is 3,700mAh typical and 3,590mAh rated - the smallest figure in Samsung's own table for this series.
- Wired charging is 25W with the adapter sold separately, while 45W, Wi-Fi 6E and ultra-wideband all went to the S22+ alone.
- The software arithmetic: four Android generations from Android 12 ends at Android 16, and the series has moved to quarterly rather than monthly security patches.
