Overview

The Xiaomi 12 is a lower mid-range phone from Xiaomi, with an unverified reference price of about JOD 185 (about $260), up to about JOD 215 for higher storage — also an estimate — an estimate, not a confirmed market price. Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: its strong 32 MP selfie camera, and its vivid OLED display. Its chipset is mid-tier (72/100 on our spec-based index) — the usual class for social media, video, photos and light games.

Performance-index rank: #62 of 354 Xiaomi phones we list.

Why consider it?

Very few phones pair a 69.9 mm wide, 180 g body with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 50 W wireless charging. The Xiaomi 12 was an explicit attempt at a small flagship, and its specification sheet shows exactly where that cost something.

Who it suits

One-handed users who want a manageable size without dropping to a cheaper class, and who value wireless charging, an IR blaster and stereo speakers tuned by Harman Kardon.

Who should look elsewhere

Heavy readers and video watchers, anyone who needs optical zoom, and anyone whose day runs long away from a charger.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

The Xiaomi 12 is a global model with a complete published specification on mi.com, and the clearest way to read it is as an exercise in shrinking: 152.7 x 69.9 x 8.16 mm and 180 g around a 6.28-inch AMOLED at 2400x1080, which works out to 419 ppi. The panel is flat, runs at 120 Hz with touch sampling to 480 Hz, claims 5,000,000:1 contrast, supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ behind Gorilla Glass Victus, and carries a DisplayMate A+ grade in Xiaomi's own listing.

Silicon is the 4 nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and Xiaomi spells out its clusters: a prime core built on Cortex-X2 with a 3.0 GHz ceiling, a trio of gold A710 cores held at 2.5 GHz beneath it, and a silver quartet of A510 cores at 1.8 GHz. Memory is LPDDR5 and storage UFS 3.1, across 8+128, 8+256 and 12+256 configurations.

Three rear cameras: a 50 MP main on a 1/1.56-inch sensor with 1.0 micron pixels binning four-to-one into 2 micron, f/1.88 and OIS; a 13 MP ultra-wide covering 123 degrees; and a 5 MP telemacro that autofocuses from 3 to 7 cm. The selfie camera is a 32 MP in-display unit.

Power comes from 4500 mAh charging at 67 W over the cable, 50 W on a pad and 10 W in reverse, cooled by a large vapour chamber and graphite layers. The rest of the sheet is complete: stereo speakers with Harman Kardon tuning and Dolby Atmos, an in-display fingerprint reader, an X-axis motor, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and an IR blaster.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • Galaxy S22 — The same ≈ 185 JOD, and the only other phone on this list playing the small-flagship game: 6.1 inches at 120 Hz on an Exynos 2200. Slightly smaller again, but its battery is 3700 mAh against 4500 here. (185 JOD · estimate) full comparison ›
  • Poco F5 — The same ≈ 185 JOD for a phone a year newer: a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, 5000 mAh and a 6.67-inch screen. It trades in the opposite direction - more battery and more screen, in a larger body and with no wireless charging. (185 JOD · estimate) full comparison ›

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

Worth ≈ 185 JOD, and up to ≈ 215, if size is your first condition - a 69.9 mm wide, 180 g phone that gives up nothing on the processor, because the alternatives at that width are few. If you shoot at distance or spend hours on the screen, the missing telephoto and 4500 mAh behind a 6.28-inch panel are the walls you hit first.

What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Snapdragon 8 Gen1 — mid tier (72/100) for social media, video and light-to-medium games.
Battery: 4,500 mAh — a mid-size capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 67W — among the fastest around (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: AMOLED FHD+, 6.28-inch — an OLED panel (true blacks, higher contrast than LCD).
Camera: 50+13+5 MP (3 lenses) plus a 32 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • The size is the rare part: 6.28 inches, 69.9 mm wide, 8.16 mm thick, 180 g - and still a 4 nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage.
  • Three charging methods in the table: 67 W wired with the adapter in the box, 50 W wireless and 10 W reverse wireless, the last two being unusual at this price.
  • A 50 MP main camera riding a 1/1.56-inch sensor, f/1.88, optically stabilised, recording up to 8K at 24 fps and 4K at 60.

Cons

  • There is no telephoto lens: the third camera is a 5 MP telemacro with autofocus between 3 and 7 cm, so any distant zoom is fully digital.
  • A 4500 mAh battery behind top-tier silicon - the Poco F5, priced level with it in our record, holds 5000 mAh.
  • Xiaomi's global table lists no IP rating and no memory-card slot, and the phone shipped on MIUI 13 over Android 12.
