Overview

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is a mid-range phone from Samsung, with the 256GB variant (new) observed from about JOD 427 (about $605) in local classified listings for new units on 30 September 2026; higher storage tiers are our estimate at about JOD 450 (not observed). Below is its full spec sheet with a plain-language breakdown, pros and cons, and how it compares to its rivals. We have not tested this phone ourselves; everything here is derived from published specifications.

Its main highlights: its 200 MP main camera, and its sharp, bright display. Its chipset is in the strong tier (82/100 on our spec-based index) — on paper a fit for heavy daily use and most games.

Performance-index rank: #21 of 342 Samsung phones we list.

Why consider it?

The S23 Ultra packs full flagship camera hardware into a 427–≈ 450 JD estimate: a 6.8-inch QHD+ panel, four rear cameras including a genuine 10x optical periscope, and an S Pen that stows inside the body. The catch is its February 2023 launch date, which makes its update window shorter than any newer Galaxy.

Who it suits

People who actually shoot at distance — both 3x and 10x here are optical, not cropped — or who write and annotate with a stylus and don't mind a 234g phone.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone buying for software longevity: Samsung committed the S23 line to four Android generations and five years of security updates from launch, against seven years for the S24 family.

Performance, camera, display and battery — and the limits of the evidence

The S23 Ultra arrived in February 2023 as Samsung's most heavily equipped phone, and at an estimated 427–≈ 450 JD its spec sheet deserves a second look. Samsung lists a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate; adaptive means the panel can drop to a very low rate on static content instead of holding 120Hz, which is a power argument as much as a smoothness one. The rear array is four cameras: a 200MP F1.7 main, a 12MP ultra-wide, a 10MP 3x telephoto and a 10MP 10x periscope at F4.9. That 10x optical lens has become rare even on newer, pricier phones — most rivals in this price band reach long distances by cropping digitally from one sensor, and the gap widens the further away the subject is. Battery is 5,000mAh with 45W wired charging, the body is IP68 rated, and the spec sheet lists no memory card slot, so storage is a decision you make once, at purchase. The figure to weigh before paying is software life: Samsung's published commitment for the S23 line is four Android generations and five years of security updates from launch, where the S24, S24 FE and Z Flip6 all get seven years. We have not tested this device; image quality, thermal behaviour and day-to-day endurance cannot be read off numbers.

Verdict — conditional on your needs and the documented price above

If long-range zoom and the stylus are the reason you're buying, nothing else at 427–≈ 450 JD is this specialised; if software life matters more, buy newer. We haven't tested it, so photo quality, sustained heat and real-world battery life remain unverified here.

What does that mean in plain words?

Chipset: Snapdragon 8 Gen2 — a strong tier (82/100 on specs), on paper suited to most games and demanding apps.
Battery: 5,000 mAh — a large capacity by market standards. Capacity is an indicator, not a measurement: real endurance depends on the display, chipset and your usage, and we have not measured it.
Charging: 45W — fast (rated charging power; actual charge time varies with the charger and temperature).
Display: AMOLED 2K, 6.8-inch — above-FHD resolution; OLED means true blacks and high contrast.
Camera: 200+12+10+10 MP (4 lenses) plus a 12 MP front camera. Megapixels and lens count describe the setup, not image quality — real results depend on the sensor and processing, which we have not tested.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Four rear cameras on Samsung's own sheet: 200MP F1.7 main, 12MP ultra-wide, 10MP 3x telephoto and a 10MP 10x periscope — real optical reach rather than a digital crop.
  • 5,000mAh with 45W wired charging; Samsung quotes up to 65% in around 30 minutes with a 45W adapter and 5A cable (adapter sold separately).
  • Built-in S Pen plus IP68 water and dust resistance — a pairing you rarely find together around 427–≈ 450 JD.

Cons

  • Support window: four OS generations and five years of security patches from February 2023, which by arithmetic ends around early 2028 — the shortest of the four Samsungs covered here.
  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is 2023 silicon, and newer chips sit at effectively the same money, for example the Xiaomi 14 with an 8 Gen 3 at ≈ 419 JD.
  • At 234g and 78.1 x 163.4 x 8.9mm it is the heaviest phone in this band, and how that feels over a day is not something a spec sheet decides — we have not handled this unit.
