Figures as published (July 27, 2026). Prices written in the article text are our catalog's figures when it was written, and prices move — each phone's current price and its status (observed with a date, or an estimate) are on its page and in the “Phones mentioned” cards below, and any device or brand count above belongs to that date.
The most common phone-buying mistake is jumping a whole price tier for one feature you'll barely use. So here's the ladder: the best each tier offers right now, and when paying more actually pays off. One thing up front — 298 of the 400 phones we track now run a 120Hz display or faster, so a smooth screen is no longer a flagship perk.
Under JOD 100: the basics got respectable
This is the busiest end of the market. Two standouts right now: the Galaxy A16 5G at around JOD 95 with a 5,000mAh battery, and the Tecno Spark 30 Pro at around JOD 99 with a 120Hz panel. Some records from this tier:
- Cheapest 120Hz phone: Redmi A5, around JOD 62
- Cheapest AMOLED screen: Tecno Camon 20, around JOD 75
- Cheapest 5,000mAh battery: Redmi A3, around JOD 49
JOD 100–150: old flagship vs. new midranger
This is where it gets interesting. The Galaxy S21 at around JOD 135 still packs an Exynos 2100, a 120Hz screen and a 66 score — performance most brand-new phones at this price can't touch. Prefer something factory-fresh? The Tecno Camon 30 Pro 5G at around JOD 149 brings a 144Hz display.
JOD 150–250: real flagship silicon
Here you unlock genuine flagship chips. The Xiaomi 13 at around JOD 245 runs a Snapdragon 8 Gen2 and scores 82 on our index; the Galaxy S23 at around JOD 249 carries the same chip. If battery matters more, the Poco X7 Pro at around JOD 249 packs 6,000mAh.
JOD 250–400: a modern flagship for half the money
This is the sweet spot of the whole market right now. The Galaxy S25 at around JOD 340 pairs a Snapdragon 8 Elite with a 91 score — the cheapest ticket to a full current-generation flagship experience. The Realme GT 7T at around JOD 349 adds a 7,000mAh battery, and the Poco F7 at around JOD 379 pushes that to 7,550mAh.
JOD 400–700: peak performance territory
The Nubia RedMagic 11 Pro at around JOD 609 (98 score, 7,500mAh) and the OnePlus 15 at around JOD 650 with a 165Hz display and a 98 score both run the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 you'll find in the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
JOD 700 and up: the last few points
The iPhone 17 Pro Max at around JOD 889 holds the top score on our index — a full 100 — while the Galaxy S26 Ultra at around JOD 719 sits at 98. What the extra money buys over the previous tier isn't raw speed, which is already available for less; it's cameras, build and finishing touches.
